This is work we've done.

Fieldwork isn't a services menu and it isn't a collection of manufactured case studies. It documents what the situation was, what made it difficult, what was done, and what changed afterward.

Customer identities, sensitive configurations, security details, and other protected information stay out of the story. The engineering and the outcome remain.

The work crossed nearly every traditional IT boundary because the problem did too.

01 / ASSESS

Find the gaps before they become findings.

Performed readiness work for a Colorado Division of Gaming ICMP Section 6 audit and reviewed the environment against cyber-insurance expectations. The properties later passed the Section 6 audit after the readiness and remediation work was completed.

02 / STABILIZE

Make recovery real.

Existing backup and restore practices were not reliable. Automated backup methodology was established, restore procedures were rebuilt, and critical-system test restores were completed for both properties to validate that recovery actually worked.

03 / PROTECT

Strengthen the operating environment.

Corrected RAMP logging practices and created policy for maintaining them, drafted more than 15 IT policies and procedures, corrected Meraki configuration issues, and deployed internal FortiGate firewalls to isolate ATM and ticket-redemption systems.

04 / MODERNIZE

Move critical infrastructure forward.

Replaced Windows Server 2003-era domain controllers with four Windows Server 2019 domain controllers. The migration required an intermediate 2008 R2 upgrade path, Active Directory feature and functional-level modernization, and migration of FSMO roles to the new infrastructure.

05 / INTEGRATE

Deploy systems that depend on systems.

Handled the IT deployment for QCI, including its Windows infrastructure and two SQL Server replication systems supplying data to the platform. Deployed Aristocrat ATI Loyalty alongside the existing Oasis 360 environment, adding nine RHEL and eight Windows servers to the VMware stack.

06 / VALIDATE

Leave behind something supportable.

The engagement produced a more secure, recoverable, maintainable technology foundation: recovery was tested, aging identity infrastructure was replaced, major new platforms were integrated, and regulatory readiness was materially improved.

Ground-up IT and surveillance engineering for the planned revival of Baby Doe's Casino & Saloon inside a historic Central City property.

01 / THE BUILDING

Start with the structure that actually exists.

The property dated to the late 1800s and had been remodeled repeatedly over more than a century. Technology design had to work around historic construction, existing physical constraints, and Historic District requirements. The engagement was conducted onsite alongside the general architect and construction team—not from a remote design desk.

02 / THE BACKBONE

Engineer the paths before pulling the cable.

The MDF and two IDF locations were determined onsite. Fiber routes were planned for the gaming, back-of-house, and surveillance environments, along with the structured cabling needed to connect the property. The production network was fully designed and ready for Cisco and Ubiquiti hardware procurement and configuration.

03 / THE CASINO

Design the systems behind the guest experience.

The architecture covered gaming, point-of-sale, VoIP, back-office operations, guest services, wireless, Internet connectivity, server virtualization, Microsoft 365, and the supporting security and segmentation. Konami SYNKROS had been selected as the casino management system and the environment was ready to move into implementation.

04 / SURVEILLANCE

Make coverage part of the architecture.

Surveillance was design-ready: most camera locations had been established, cable routes were planned, and the surveillance fiber backbone and supporting server infrastructure were defined with Colorado gaming requirements in mind. The first camera and server-hardware contracts were scheduled to be signed the day project funding was withdrawn.

05 / INTEGRATION

Use the platforms that fit. Build the connection that doesn't exist.

Toast had been selected for the Grub Stake restaurant POS. A planned custom two-way integration between Toast and SYNKROS would have allowed guests to redeem food comps directly at the restaurant, validating the comp and debiting the guest's balance in SYNKROS without requiring a printed players-club coupon.

06 / READY TO BUILD

The design reached the point of execution.

Architects, construction teams, structured-cabling installers, gaming-system vendors, networking vendors, and technology partners had been coordinated. Equipment selections were made, infrastructure locations and pathways were established, and purchasing was beginning. Physical technology deployment was only days away when funding for the larger casino project was pulled.

The project stopped. The work didn't disappear.

The implementation never happened. The engineering did.

Funding for the larger casino redevelopment was withdrawn immediately before technology deployment was set to begin. The completed work left behind a coordinated, deployment-ready blueprint for bringing a modern gaming and hospitality operation into a historic Central City property.
